The Heinkel He 178 was the world's first practical turbojet aircraft. It was developed in private by Heinkel. A successful flight was demonstrated to German officials but they were not interested. Herman Goerig, CinC of Luftwaffe did not even show up. The lack of interest was partly due to the Luftwaffe was secretly developing their own jet fighter by that time.
