Desert Sand

(Desert Sand Painting Scheme)

This tank is fully painted in UK Desert Sand Color scheme, weathered. No assembling required.

Note: It is not likely that a Churchill AVRE (with or without deep wading device) ever serviced in the North African campaign in WWII. This model is to give an option to wargamers and modellers to participate in "What-if" scenerio and utilize the vehicle in a desert environment.

History:
Following the lesson learnt form the failed landing attempt at Dieppe, and in preparation for the major landing operation in Normandy, British standard Churcill tank was specially modified into the AVRE (Assault Vehicle, Royal Engineers).

The main gun was replaced by a 290mm muzzle loading Petard mortar specially for clearing concrete obstacles. It fired a 40lb. spigot high explosive shell nicknamed the Flying Dustbin. The vehicle was also fitted with standard attachment points so that it could be modified into other special purpose vehicles such as the Churchill Bobbin and Fascine.

This tank formed the back bone of "Hobart's Funnies" which took part in the Normandy landing in 1944.
